3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: Satisfaction of Level I General Studies requirements; ARTH 1500 or ARTH 1600 or ARTH 1700 or ARTH 2100; or Permission of instructor This course studies the work produced by artists of African, Asian, Latin American, and Native American ancestry and their contribution to art in the United States. A brief introduction to the artistic legacies of Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas is followed by a more focused study of American artists whose creative activity reflects their varied cultural heritages.
