Includes extensive introduction (with lab) to the PERL programming language, UNIX corpus tools, Concordance/ KWIC programs, syntactic treebanks, and corpora for discourse and phonetics research. Segment on corpus design covers SGML tools and theoretical issues in transcription. Prereq., graduate standing or instructor consent.
