Description: Introduction to the chemical and adhesive properties of macromolecules at interfaces. The fundamental physico-chemical forces that govern adsorption of macromolecules at interfaces and inter-particle adhesion will be discussed. Topics such as surface tension, self-assembly, adsorption of polymers and biomolecules, and bacterial cell adhesion will be discussed with emphasis on environmental applications. Grading: Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 103B. Identical to: SWES 572; SWES is home department. Usually offered: Spring.
