Description: Overview of classical Arabic literature; pre-Islamic era to Abbasid periods. Explore artistic poetic characteristics of each of these periods and their most important genres. Examine political, social, intellectual and religious environments in the emergence of these four distinctive literatures. Graduate-level requirements include three major exams, an additional paper and presentation. Grading: Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E. May be convened with: ARB 448.
