Description: This course focuses on anthropological approaches to the study of culture contact and colonialism. Particular emphasis is placed on archaeological and ethnohistorical approaches to the relationships between native peoples and Europeans in the 16th through 18th centuries in southeastern and southwestern North America. The course includes a history of theoretical perspectives in sociopolitical context as well as a critical review of contemporary culture contact and colonialism theory. Grading: Regular or alternative grades can be awarded for this course: A B C D E or S P C D E. Usually offered: Fall.
