Description: Course provides the student with an introduction to the management of the patient with severe multiple system disease in the surgical intensive care unit setting. Major emphasis will be placed on providing an understanding of the diagnosis and management of acute respiratory failure, fluid, electrolyte, cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Format: The experience will consist of a four-week assignment to the Critical Care Medicine Service. Students will work under the supervision of residents and fellows of this service and an attending physician. They will participate in patient consultations and follow-up, rounds and conferences. Grading: Medical grades are awarded for this course: S P F K. Prerequisite(s): Completion of clerkships. May be repeated: an unlimited number of times, consult your department for details and possible restrictions. Identical to: SURG 815P, MEDI 815P. Usually offered: Fall, Spring.
