African Dance. This class is designed to sensitize the dancer to African rhythm and movement. Musical Theater. Explores representative steps and styles of major choreographers, acting, and expressive use of the voice with rhythm and pitch. Tap. Develops proper techniques in tap and proper use of terminology. Discussions on the history of tap. Related tap styles in musicals using both classical and modern jazz music and understanding of the same. Hip-Hop. Phrasing of styles, musical repetition, and "flow" are central themes that will be covered. Comparing energy levels for music video work and live performance will challenge the dancer to strengthen and or discover their goals with this urban social dance form. "Old School" styles of "Popping", "Brooklyn", "Waving", and "Electric Boogaloo" to the new forms of "Krumping!" and "Step" are the focus of the class. All sections are 2 hours weekly; 0.5 credits
