An examination of the role of the professional in helping relationships. Focus is upon the development of the skills of personal support and consultation to parents and other individuals having responsibility for the care of children with exceptional educational and medical needs. Students examine the development and implementation of appropriate helping programs, the facilitation of understanding and acceptance of the child's special needs, and the implementation and evaluation of strategies for assisting individuals and families.
