Prerequisites: CPTR 150 and MATH 129 or MATH 280 with a minimum grade of "C" . Firstsemester: Propositional and predicate logic, including both syntax (formal language specification and proof methods) and semantics (models and truth-value assignments); elementary computer applications including Boolean algebra and introduction to Prolog. Second semester: Axiomatic approach to Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries, including hyperbolic geometry and the models proposed by Lobachevsky, Klein, and Poincare; philosophical exploration of the relationship between mathematical theories and reality. Credit may be earned for only one department listing. (Fall Semester, odd years; Spring Semester, even years)
