Prerequisite: ENGL 101 with a grade of "C" or better and placement into MATH 120 . Anintroduction to the knowledge and basic skills required for all health care professions. Students will do research on a health care occupation of their choice to include: Health Information Center (MCPL), National Library of Medicine (NIH), shadowing in the workplace, and interviewing a healthcare professional. Students will become fully oriented and compliant volunteers at Washington Adventist Hospital, which includes training and evaluation in workplace safety (JCAHO), healthcare communication, legal and ethical considerations including confidentiality and HIPAA. Skills included: Math for healthcare providers, CPR and first aid, Vital signs and basic patient assessment, and infection control measures, (Credit not applicable toward general education health requirement.) (Spring Semester)
