Prerequisites: EDUC 242 and acceptance into the teacher education program; EDUC 342 (may be taken concurrently. Materials and methods of teaching reading in the elementary school. The emphasis is on a balanced reading program that includes current information on the use of whole language, basal readers, and phonics, in teaching and assessing reading skills. This course is available for students enrolled in early childhood, elementary, or elementary/special education programs with Pre-K-8 class assignments and school experiences focused as needed for the respective programs. (Spring Semester)
