This is a writing-intensive seminar offering the theories and skills needed to prepare professional speeches, as well as the historical and cultural knowledge needed to understand the role of speechwriting in the modern world. Students will read rhetorical theory, examine historical speeches that either succeeded or failed famously, and write original speeches designed to meet the demands of a variety of situations and contexts.
