A survey of painting, sculpture, and architecture from a wide range of cultures. Beginning with the art associated with prehistoric cultures, the course also considers the art of the indigenous peoples of Africa and the Americas, the Ancient Near East, Greece, Rome, and Medieval Europe. The course is designed to familiarize the student with key monuments and to promote an understanding of how they relate to their cultural context and fit into a historical evolution of style.
