An interdisciplinary course required of all Division I major and some minor programs, that surveys the history of Western art, architecture, literature, and music from ancient Greece through the contemporary era, explaining how these arts reflect major historical events, major changes in social structures and ideologies, and major artistic movements. The second semester begins with the Baroque period. In addition to providing the key historical context for major works of the Western arts, this course introduces the key terms for aesthetic appreciation and understanding. Courses also fulfill Division V course requirement.
