What is a nation, as opposed to a state or ethnic community Why does the "nation" command so much of ouridentity The nation, unlike the state, exists in the hearts and minds of its members, sustained daily through imagining community-a project that the media are especially tasked with. Taking the "nation" as a mediproduct, the course will examine its production (political economy), textual construction and consumption/reproduction. Alternate years; not offered 2008-2009.
