An introduction to the fundamental concepts in cell biology and genetics through an exploration of human diseases such as HIV, cancer, cystic fibrosis and diabetes. The course will focus on cellular communication; bioenergetics; and gene structure, expression and inheritance. The weekly discussion section will explore research methods and approaches taken in the quest to cure human disease. Prerequisites: none. Three lecture hours per week. Offered occasionally.
