SPRING A study of church history from the Apostolic Church to the present. Topics considered will include the rise and growth of the early church, early theological controversies, the development and influence of the papacy, the schism between the Eastern and Western churches, the Reformation and the ensuing conflicts in Europe, religious factors in the colonization of the New World, the great revival movements, and modern Christianity. Special stress is laid upon the historical roots of present problems and issues facing the church. Prerequisite: HIS 131
