The development of modern society, literature and the arts, including film, from Realism, Naturalism and Symbolism through the surrealist revolution and existentialism in the context of the emergence of science and industry and two world wars. Authors may include Flaubert, Zola, Maupassant, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Gide, Proust, Apollinaire, Colette, Eluard, Sartre and Camus. May be repeated once for credit.
