This course prepares students to teach percussion instruments in the elementary, middle, and secondary school settings. Students will acquire playing skills on both pitched and nonpitched percussion instruments and study the pedagogy involved in teaching these instruments successfully. Topics include percussion technique, care and maintenance, learning styles, classroom management, assessment, state/national standards, curriculum development and implementation, applications of current research. In addition to the regular meeting time, students will be required to attend one percussion related concert during this term of study. Student must have at least sophomore standing to register for this course.
