Study of such phenomena as crowds and mobs, panics and riots, fads and fashions, rumor and propaganda, the formation of publics, and public opinions. Examines the transition from unorganized to organized group behavior, from behavior based largely on emotional contagion to behavior on a shared symbolic framework. Prerequisite: SOCI 0101.
