An overview of species counterpoint will lead to a study of tonal counterpoint in the style of the 18th Century. Analysis of representative works will complement the written work in two to four voices, culminating in efforts in such forms and techniques as the invention, canon, invertible counterpoint, and fugue. Prerequisite: MUSC 0211.
