One unit. At the beginning of the XX century, one of the best known Latin American writers, Horacio Quiroga, published a collection of short stories entitled: Cuentos de amor, de locura y muerte. This text prefi gures many trends of Latin American literature during this century: magical realism, fantastic literature, and the redefi nition of nature, among others. This class considers love, madness, and death as main topics in contemporary Latin American literature. Prerequisite: SP 310 or equivalent. Offered as required.
