One unit. Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory weekly. A course in the genetics of bacteria, fungi, bacteriophages, and other viruses. Particular emphasis is placed on the experimental use of microorganisms in the study of molecular events in genetics including: DNA replication, macromolecular synthesis and regulation, mutation, recombination, and DNA repair. Prerequisites: MI 200, 219, 221, CH 211. Offered spring semester of odd-numbered years.
