One unit. This course provides an overview of the political, economic, and social histories of the Middle East since the nineteenth century with a view towards understanding the challenges which have developed in creating the image of the region and its peoples. Special emphasis is placed on colonialism, the resistance to imperialism, intra-Arab relations, the Arab-Israel confl ict, and the role of the great powers in contemporary Middle Eastern politics.
