This course examines the various disciplinary and theoretical approaches to Africana Studies and its development as a field of scholarly inquiry. Through fiction and nonfiction, students will explore topics that will include Africa and its place in the world community, the Atlantic slave trade, nationalism, Pan-Africanism, Afrocentricity, and the roles of race, gender, and class in shaping the experiences of people of African descent in African and the Diaspora. Prerequisites: ENGL 110 Composition I, ENGL 111 Composition II
