S Theoretical approaches to the study of parenting and parent-child relationships, techniques for analyzing common parenting problems, designing appropriate interventions, fostering effective communication skills, understanding issues of diversity, and promoting parent education programs. Professional collaboration and support of families and children are emphasized throughout. Students develop analytical skills through reading, discussion, and application of theoretical and empirical concepts. (Formerly HDFL 486.)
