3 hours. (2;4) Teaches students about typography's formal, plastic qualities. Topics covered include typographic anatomy and vocabulary, figure ground relationships, letterform drawing and rendering, character manipulation, typographic semiotics and the relationship existing between type and color. Structured around lectures, demonstrations, extensive studio work and critiques. Traditional and digital techniques are used over the course of the semester. This is an artifact based course. Prerequisite(s): ART 1200, 1440 and 1500; acceptance into the communication design program through the communication design entry portfolio review. Students are required to have completed Adobe Illustrator certification prior to the start of this class.
