Although the focus of this course is on the contemporary American family, the history, the forms and functions of families in other times and other cultures is also examined. Special attention is given to the family as a social institution, its relationship with other institutions, forces of social and cultural change, and the future of the family. Prerequisite: any 200-level sociology course or consent. Offered each fall.
