Provides an appreciation of the processes and structures of corrections within an American and international framework. Specifically, we examine historical, legal, economic and sociological issues in maintaining control and order over those defined as criminal. The course provides a critical examination of the concepts of punishment, deterrence, and rehabilitation. Prerequisite: CJ 200 or 205. Offered fall of odd-numbered years.
