A survey of the geopolitical, socioeconomic and cultural aspects of peninsular Spain from the time of the First Republic to the present day. In this course we will explore how identities of a diverse and heterogeneous Spain were constucted historically. Through the exploration of the diversity of Spain, we will learn to better understand contemporary Spain as a multicultural and multilingual nation of twenty-first century. There will be a particular focus on cultural production, specifically literature, film, arts, and music contributions to the development and expression of cultures in various historical, political and economic contexts. Prerequisite: one 200-level course in Spanish.
