This course explores a broad range of poetic expression in the Spanish language from the Middle Ages to the present on both sides of the Atlantic. Emphasis is placed on critical approaches to poetry as well as on the pleasure of enjoying it. Poetic works will be read in the context of major literary movements of the Hispanic world, and also as independent texts whose meaning is constructed by each and every reader.
