This course takes a multidisciplinary approach by examining the geography, language, history, religion, culture and social life of Vietnam. Topics to be analyzed include the land and people of Vietnam, Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism, women's role in traditional and modern Vietnamese societies, traditional world views and healing methods, the resistance and wars against China, France, and the United States and their effects in shaping the socio-economic life and cultural patterns of the Vietnamese people.
