This course is required of all English majors and minors as well as all English Education majors. It is the gateway course to English studies, introducing students through close reading of a variety of texts to the basic elements of the genres of literary study (fiction, poetry, drama), the terminology used in the profession, how to conduct effective scholarly research, and how to write critical essays on a variety of genres using the stylistic format of the profession.
