An in-depth study of the chemistry of major classes of carbon compounds (alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ethers, alkyl halides, and aromatic hydrocarbons). Topics include structure, nomenclature, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms, and spectroscopy (NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopy). The course emphasizes both structure and mechanism.
