8 HRS. A continuation of ST 111, this course will focus on knowledge and skills basic to effective performance as a member of the surgical team. Improving skills in assisting the team members and in the organization of work by learning to use economy of time, motion, and materials will be expected. Solo scrub experiences will be assigned, enabling the student to focus on anticipating needs and minimizing the patient's exposure to trauma. Students will be expected to display manual dexterity and physical stamina required in the employment setting. Focus will also be directed toward anticipatory socialization and adaptation to aid role transition from student to graduate. (32 clinical hours and 2 seminar hours per week.)
