6 HRS. This course is designed to introduce the student to the role, working environment and required skills of the surgical technologist. Principles of aseptic technique, standard precautions and methods of infection control will be emphasized. The student participates, with supervision, in the preoperative care of the surgical patient, utilizing beginning skills of aseptic technique, instrumentation and environmental control. (3 lecture; 9 clinical hours per week.) (Prerequisite: Admission to the Surgical Technology)
