3 HRS. Study of the devices found in the industry as inputs and outputs for programmable controllers, including motor, solenoid, alarm, light, relay stepping motor, limit switch proximity switch, transducers, etc. Concepts studied include: Examine ON, Examine OFF, Series Functions, Parallel Functions, Series and Parallel Rungs, PC Timing Cycle, and Time and Event Driven Sequence. Systems studied include: 4 station punch press, pipe threader, material handling, microcomputer assembly batch process control, spray paint robotic welder, etc. Laboratory exercise using programmable controller to set up the systems covered in lecture. (2 lecture and 2 lab hours.) (Prerequisite: ELEC 220) S
