3 Cr. A study of the historical, philosophical, and practical aspects of piano teaching at the beginning and intermediate levels. Includes the critical assessment of piano teaching methods, supplementary literature, and technology resources. Consideration of the principles and materials associated with the development of piano technique, including tone production, touch, and physical awareness. Cultivation of an individual teaching style and philosophy through lesson planning and structure, lesson observations, and practice teaching. Introduction to the practical aspects of creating and maintaining a private music studio, including active membership in Music Teachers National Association. Offered every other year.
