2 Cr. A survey of vocal music from approximately 1600 to the present in Europe and the United States. Emphasis will be placed on broadening the repertoire of the performer and teacher through a study of major song composers of the German, French, Italian, and English cultures. Class activities will focus on stylistic characteristics of this literature through a combination of lecture and directed listening. Offered every other year. Prerequisites: 152, 237, 238, 327.
