2 Cr. The course is designed as a practical introduction to choral arranging with exposure to orchestration/instrumentation. Students will explore various aspects of arranging through critical evaluation, study of copyright, research of suitable source material and vocal/orchestral issues such as voicing, range, transposition, balance, notation and texture. The course features guest speakers (instrumentalists and choral arrangers) and culminates with a forum performance of student arrangements. Students will use FINALE software for all arranging projects. Prerequisite: 205, 252.
