1 Cr. Keyboard skill development for music majors designed to provide the student with the skills needed to complete the required Piano Profi ciency II Exam. Activities include: piano technique and music theory through keyboard patterns including all major and minor scales and arpeggios hands together, all major and minor descending penta-scales hands together, primary chord progressions in all major and minor keys-incorporating common tone voicing in the right hand and chord root in the bass; sight-reading at a late elementary level; preparation of middle school level vocal solo and choral accompaniments; preparation of threepart open score reading; harmonization of familiar tunes by ear with block chords in C, F, and G; and the study of appropriate repertoire. The Piano Profi ciency II Exam will act as the fi nal exam for the course. Target completion date of this exam is fall semester of the sophomore year. Taken in conjunction with a music theory course of an appropriate level (MUSC 251 or 252). Prerequisites: MUSC 105, 151. May be repeated for credit. Graded CR/NC.
