This is a first course in calculus for students planning a career in engineering. All of the topics normally covered in a general calculus course will be included. Among these topics are limits, continuity and the derivative of functions. In addition, the antiderivative and simple differential equations will also be covered. The course differs from a standard calculus course in that a larger emphasis on the applications of differentiation to engineering problems will be included. These applications include maximization problems, related rated problems, exponential growth problems and vibration problems. A grade of C- or higher is required before proceeding to MAT225. Prerequisite: permission of the department chair.
