- 4 credits This course covers additional selected avionics systems beginning with the fundamentals of radio frequency issues for the line avionics technician including typical superheterodyne receiver and transmitter operation at the block diagram level, antennae, transmission lines and wave guides. Systems include very high frequency (VHF) and high frequency (HF) communications, aircraft communication and reporting system (ACARS), interphone systems, cockpit voice recording and flight data recording. Also covered are heavy transport flight control and hydraulics systems, in which the student is introduced to flight operations and navigation methods involving autoflight control systems. Laboratory projects using line aircraft, avionics communications, radio and cockpit mock-ups reinforce lecture material. Prerequisite: AVM481; corequisite: AVM482; spring and summer offering only
