An exploration of the diversity of the world's literature, with emphasis on works outside the "Westerncanon." Using a comparative approach, the course will examine issues such as cultural difference, translation across cultures, ethnocentrism, canon construction, colonization, literature and politics, and literature as a "way of seeing" the world.
