This course reviews the evolutionary and ecological bases for the Earth's biodiversity and its importance to ecosystem function and human welfare. The causes, rates and patterns of loss of biodiversity throughout the world and the concepts and techniques used in ecological conservation and restoration are reviewed. Three class hours per week. PREREQUISITE: BIOL 305 or permission of the instructor.
