An examination of various aspects of slavery in Africa primarily, and selected parts of the African Diaspora including the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, with emphasis on African conditions of servility, the Atlantic slave trade and chattel slavery. The role gender and race played in slavery will be given particular attention.
