Notions of gender and sexuality have played a key role in defining what we understand as the modern world. This course explores the links between gender, sexuality and power in the 20th century around the world. Issues covered include ideas of masculinity and nationalism; the impact of multinational corporations on the status of women; the sex industry; notions of beauty and the media; and violence and the lives of women.
