This course explores the traditions and experiences of the North American indigenous peoples from the hunter-gatherers of prehistory, through encounters with Europeans, and into the modern period of resistance and resurgence. Students will examine the demographic, economic, and social consequences of contact with Europeans, and the various struggles Native Americans adopted for survival and persistence.
