Introduction to the subject and methods of American Studies. Students learn how American Studies forms its own mode of interdisciplinary inquiry, one whose multiple perspectives enrich an understanding of society and culture in America. This course is organized around a single-semester topic or theme such as imperialism, sexual diversity, or ethnicity; or it may focus on a particular era such as the Gilded Age or the Fifties.
