3 semester hours This course is designed to provide an overview initially of ecosystems-including their abiotic components-in their natural state absent any impacts by the industrial society and its sources. Thereafter, the course examines man's impact upon the ecosystem and public health by evaluating sources of air contaminants, water contaminants, and soil contaminants and their adverse impacts along with an analysis of the generation and management of solid waste streams. The course concludes with a study of the identification and management of hazards in the workplace. United States environmental and occupational health and safety laws and regulations are the processes associated with their development, implementation, and enforcement are examined throughout the course.
